Industrial production in May 2010

The industrial production in the Republic of Serbia in May 2010, when compared to May 2009, increased by 7.0% and in relation to 2009 average it decreased by 0.5%. In the period January – May 2010, compared with the same period 2009, the industrial production increased by 5.4%.

Observed as divided by sections, in May 2010 compared to the same month 2009, the trends were noted as follows:

• the section of mining and quarrying – growth of 10.9%,
• the section of manufacturing – growth of 7.9% and
• the section of electric power, gas and water supply – growth of 1.8%.

The data on industrial production by destination in May 2010, compared to May 2009, expressed growth in the production of the following goods:

• intermediate products, energy excluded, by 25.7%,
• durable consumer goods, by 13.1%
• energy, by 2.8% and
• non–durable consumer goods, by 1.4%;

while fall was noted for:

• capital goods, by 22.4%.

The industrial production volume in May 2010, compared to May 2009, expressed the following trends:

• growth in 14 divisions that in the structure of industrial production participate with 55%,
• fall in 15 divisions that in the structure of industrial production participate with 45%.

The largest influence on industrial production growth in May 2010 compared to May 2009 had the divisions of: manufacture of basic metals, manufacture of chemicals and chemical products, extruding of oil and gas, manufacture electric machines and appliances, and manufacture of cellulose, paper and paper processing.

The seasonally adjusted industrial production index for May 2010, compared to April 2010, indicates a 0.9% fall of the overall industrial production and a 0.7% fall of manufacturing.

The seasonally adjusted industrial production index for May 2010, compared to 2009 average, indicates a 3.6% growth of the overall industrial production and a 4.2% growth of manufacturing.

The production of small-size enterprises (the number of employees less than 50) that were not included in regular statistical surveys is followed on a sample of the selected units of the section of manufacturing. When the assessment of the industrial production of small-size enterprises of the sample is included, overall industrial production in May 2010 compared to 2009 average decreased by 2.2% and manufacturing increased by 2.3%.

The data on the industrial production in 2010 will be published on the last working day in a month and will refer to the previous month.

Starting from 1999 the Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia has not at disposal and may not provide available certain data relative to AP Kosovo and Metohia and therefore these data are not included in the coverage for the Republic of Serbia (total).
