USAGE OF INFORMATION – COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGIES
IN THE REPUBLIC OF SERBIA, 2008
On September 11th 2008, the publication USAGE OF INFORMATION – COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGIES IN THE REPUBLIC OF SERBIA, 2008 was presented in Media Center.
This survey is, so far, the greatest one referring to the mentioned topic, as the publication contains 145 pages and over 100 tables. Besides the representatives of the specialized magazines related to this subject and the media representatives, the presentation was also attended by the representatives of high educational institutions, whose work is closely connected with certain issues from the field of information – communication technologies. Total number of guests was about 70.
Besides the previously mentioned representatives of the specialized magazines, this conference was also covered by the media, RTS1, B92, TV Fonet, TV Infobiro, Radio Beograd1 and Beta.

This publication, which presents a project implemented as a joint venture by DFID/World Bank, offers the data on poverty and living standard that are seen as a part of the information system envisaged to support the Serbian government and the respective ministries in decision taking. Therefore, the data on poverty are of crucial importance for the strategic development within the Serbian
government, as well as for donors in assessing their measures of the Poverty reduction strategy (PRS). These data are specially required for the EU association process. The social inclusion (also poverty) indicators facilitate coordination of the policies of social inclusion, periodic reporting, and the following of respective trends in the EU member states.
In order to secure representative data and to meet the specific requirements for following living conditions of special social groups, for the Living standard measurement survey we applied a national sample of over 5500 households and also a sample of about 2000 households on internally displaced persons, of which 250 are households of displaced Roma people.

This publication briefly presents the methodological basis of the System of National Accounts (SNA1993) and the European System of Accounts (ESA95), as the internationally determined unique standards used for macroeconomic data presentation, referring to economic trends and structures, with the aim of making this complex subject somewhat closer to users.
Examples in this publication direct users to correct way of data using and interpreting, asserting also the applied statistical methods in the process of data computation. Purpose of the publication is to determine the measures used for description, analysis and comments related to computation results; furthermore, it is emphasized that national accounts’ aggregates are not the only measure of economic development.
Significant part of the CARDS project referred to implementation of the new survey in the field of structural business statistics, in accordance with the EU standards. The target group of the survey included the selected entrepreneurs. The project was conducted in cooperation with the experts of the Italian National Institute of Statistics (ISTAT).
During 2006, the Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia conducted the structural survey on the business of entrepreneurs in 2005, which was completely harmonized with the European standards and therefore internationally comparable. This publication encompasses the methodology as well as the main results of this activity.
